HEALTH: Nutrition and Physical Exercise
In Canada and the United States, cases of obesity, diabetes, cancer, and respiratory and cardiovascular disease have increased alarmingly over the past three decades. Numerous scientific studies confirm that the main causes of these diseases are smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, alcohol, stress and pollution.
Of the possible preventive measures available, a combination of balanced nutrition and moderate physical exercise is the best way of staying healthy. In Canada, public health care costs skyrocket by billions of additional dollars every year. Given such a situation, the Canadian government and the provinces must make disease prevention a top priority to stop the hemorrhage of public funds.
The book's second chapter depicts a future scenario in which Canada becomes a shining example of a healthy nation for the entire globe. Preventive medicine is fully integrated into Canada's health care services in the year 2025.
This highly optimistic, yet achievable, scenario is driven by major political decisions, including nutritional education and daily physical exercise programs in all elementary and secondary schools. It is a large project spanning 10 to 20 years.
Over the past two years, I have been developing the concept of an Internet service dedicated to the BEST AVAILABLE KNOWLEDGE ON NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE. This service is a sub-set of the health care service model described in chapter 2.
This Internet service is based on a solid business plan and international collaboration among organizations from various countries.
The project is currently being considered by a multinational communication firm and, at its request, the details of the project will remain confidential until the Internet service has been officially launched. |
