Jean Lanoix: Biography

Jean Lanoix is not just an Internet and interactive communication specialist. He began his career in public relations, moving on to prepare advertising and marketing campaigns for businesses such as Coca-Cola, Métro-Richelieu and Air Canada. He also produced TV shows for the TQS and Radio-Canada (French CBC) networks, including the series SOS TÉLÉ, winner of top honors for the best information and public affairs show at the 1989 CanPro Festival.

In 1993, he became involved in devising interactive strategies for over a hundred large organizations such as Chrysler, Maytag, Radio-Canada, Télé-Québec, La Maritime, the Toronto Police Service, Transcontinental and various Quebec and Canadian government departments.

Before taking a sabbatical year to write his book, Jean was the Interactive Strategies Director at Fujitsu Consulting's global e-commerce competency center, which served the organization's 65 offices around the world.

Jean Lanoix is a sought-after speaker for his dynamic presentations about the Internet of today and tomorrow. The central theme of his presentations is always « The Importance of Imagining the Future », showing how we can harness the power of Web media to visualize and build a better world.

In 2002, Jean Lanoix created Net2 Evolution Inc. to design and develop Internet services useful to society. He is currently devoting his energy to three projects described in his book INTERNET 2025. These projects concern (a) the future of health care services in Canada, (b) CINEMONDE.org, an organization aimed at putting an end to Hollywood's monopoly by letting film lovers invest amounts of $5 and up in the film productions of their choice, and (c) a global training center for interactive communication dedicated to online public services.

1981
Degree in Communications, Concordia University

Jean Lanoix graduated from the Department of Communications at Concordia University in Montreal with a specialization in television production. In 1980-81, he was the teaching assistant for Professor John O’Brien S.J., the department's founder. It was mostly Professor O’Brien's influence that inspired Jean to shape his career around interactive communication.

1981-1993
Public Relations, Television, Advertising and Marketing

Jean Lanoix began his career in 1981 working in public relations for the City of Montreal in the area of tourism and then became a television freelancer. In 1985, he managed the advertising and promotional campaigns behind the launch of the Télévision Quatre Saisons network. In 1987, he became a producer for two private TV production firms, Ferron and Émergence. Then, in 1990, he became marketing strategy manager for the advertising firm of Marketel McCann-Erickson in Montreal.

1993-2002
From Interactive Television to the Internet

In 1993, Jean Lanoix was appointed interactive strategy manager on the UBI interactive TV project proposed by the cable TV firm Vidéotron in collaboration with Canada Post, National Bank of Canada, Hydro-Québec and Hearst Corporation (New York). He led the strategic team in charge of helping several North American companies devise interactive communication strategies for the new medium.

In 1996, Jean became an associate of the Internet firm MetaLink, one of the first Canadian firms to create dynamic Internet services with real-time connections to the computer systems of large organizations.

In 1997, MetaLink became an affiliate of DMR Consulting, which then became Fujitsu Consulting. Two years later, in 1999, Jean was appointed director of Fujitsu Consulting's global e-commerce competency center, which served the company's 65 offices around the world.

2002-2025
Internet Serving Society

In 2002, Jean Lanoix decided to take a sabbatical year to write a book on the future of the Internet. INTERNET 2025, published in September 2003, describes actual Internet projects that the author proposes to conduct between now and 2025.

Presently, the author works as a consultant for large organizations. In parallel, he is developing the business plans and meeting with investors concerning two Internet projects related to the book INTERNET 2025: The Web site on nutrition and physical exercise and Cinemonde.org.
